On the other hand, geekdom has largely been a ‘safe space’ for outcast males who are used to being madznialiger, dismissed, etc. Some level of defensiveness when the opposite sex shows up is bound to occur, just as it does when males enter a women’s “safe space.â€And this leaves no safe space for the outcast girls and women who are used to being marginalized, dismissed, etc. (In what may be the most pathetic teenage story ever, I let some boys copy my physics homework in the hopes that they might let me play Magic: the Gathering with them. They didn’t let me play.)
